Vintage ad for the Big Top Theater, which played during the New York City based Emerald City show on July 2, 1977. The Big Top Theater was part of the same conglomeration of adult establishment on the corner of Broadway and 49th Street, which included the New World Theatre, the Circus Cinema, a burlesk joint upstairs, and The Video Shack, with the Kitty Kat, Mardi Gras, and Pussycat Theatres across the street.

THE FILTH SHOP (1969) (X) – nsfw-ish
The following is based on a recent post I made on the Something Weird Video Facebook group, which in effect is a review of the SWV release of THE FILTH SHOP (1969) and two of the other shorts on that “disk”. I’ve kept it mostly intact, although I do add some location-specific pictures and a…
FIFTY ON FRIDAYS – LA FREE PRESS – APRIL 2/3 1971
This week we head off to the west coast and delve into the Los Angeles Free Press, also known as the FREEP, which a paper that would eventually be almost fully consumed by sex ads. But in 1971 there was still a large amount of journalism still going on. However we’re only interested in the…

It’s been hard to believe that it’s been almost two full years since we’ve done a FIFTY ON FRIDAYS post. We initially thought we may have lost one or two in the hacking episode we’re still recovering from [1], but after further review of our files it turns out the last time we did one…

FIFTY ON FRIDAYS – January 15, 1971 – NEW YORK CITY
This week we’re back in New York City (surprise, surprise) and it seems to be a rather slim-pickings week, at least based on the ads (perhaps this is an indication that hotter stuff was being shown but not yet advertised). As always, enjoy.

Once again we’re back in NYC, and we have a rather big surprise in our line up: an Andy Milligan play! Yes, at the Jewel Theater we had Milligan’s SECTION 8, which may or may not have been a semi-autobiographical story about his time in the military, and his eventual ousting from it. The script…

LABOR DAY NYC 1970 – ANOTHER PLACE ANOTHER TIME
Today, September 7, 2020, is Labor Day in the United States, and fifty years ago September 7, 1970, just happened to also a Labor Day. Late summer of 1970 was just at the turning point towards full hardcore for adult films, and this was just beginning to penetrate NYC at this point (no pun intended,…
