Vintage ad for the Big Top Theater, which played during the New York City based Emerald City show on July 2, 1977. The Big Top Theater was part of the same conglomeration of adult establishment on the corner of Broadway and 49th Street, which included the New World Theatre, the Circus Cinema, a burlesk joint upstairs, and The Video Shack, with the Kitty Kat, Mardi Gras, and Pussycat Theatres across the street.

FIFTY ON FRIDAY RETURNS – VILLAGE VOICE FEB 24, 1974
It’s been hard to believe that it’s been almost two full years since we’ve done a FIFTY ON FRIDAYS post. We initially thought we may have lost one or two in the hacking episode we’re still recovering from [1], but after further review of our files it turns out the last time we did one…
Gina and Olga – Bon-Bon and LaBlanche
One evening last week I was doing research on a potentially lost film from 1971, and while I was searching for ads in the New York Daily news I came across one for the 42nd Street Playhouse Burlesk (a New Era/Seymor Domoor joint) that caught my eye (as those types of ads a prone to…
THE SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF THE DRAGON ART
For many of you connoisseurs of smut The Dragon Art Theatre, made famous by Something Weird Video series of the same name, and the usage of the Donn Davison’s introduction to those videos (first on VHS, then DVD and DVD-R, and now also downloadable, for now…), is not an unfamiliar name. And while a certain mythos has grown up around it, I submit little is actually known of the Dragon Art Theatre itself, and what does seem to “known” is at least in part completely wrong.

FIFTY ON FRIDAY – CHRISTMAS EVE 1971 – NYC
It’s a fairly light set of ads this week, perhaps the theatre managers knew that the folks who would be venturing out over the Christmas weekend were going to do that regardless of what was playing, so why waste the advertising dough. But we do get to see our old friend Capri Sam! In any…

FIFTY ON FRIDAYS – January 14, 1972 – Miami, FL
This week we’re down in sunny, and warm, Miami, Florida, and in addition to the increasingly hardcore fare on the silver screens, somewhat surprisingly vintage burlesque is still incredibly popular! We have the Place Pigalle on Collins at 22nd St, with “Sauci Comedienne” Pearl Williams (she performed for 18 years at the PP!) and Comedy…

FAUX BOYCE – NSFW
I was perusing the pages of the September 1969 edition of SWANK and ran into a somewhat confusing anomaly in the “A Woman For All Seasons” spread, which begins with: Linda Boyce believes city living breeds miseries. She’s a country girl and wants always to live close to the trees and fields. Linda Boyce is…
